Conservation

We prioritize the health of the lake. Conserving Donnell Lake and improving water quality is at the forefront of our mission. The Michigan DNR, and Progressive AE have been integral partners in our ongoing efforts to maintain our lake's water quality. Surveys of invasive aquatic species, fish, and general water quality provide us with a foundation to formulate the programs that maintain our lake's healthy ecosystem.

We are dedicated to actively managing and controlling the plant and animal species that inhabit our lake to maintain a healthy ecosystem, and rely on the support of our community to continue our efforts. Each of the current surveys are linked below.

A nuisance aquatic plant control program has been ongoing on Donnell Lake for several years. The primary objective is to prevent the spread of invasive aquatic plants while preserving beneficial native plant species. The report contains an overview of plant control activities conducted in 2024.

The Michigan DNR conducted a fisheries survey in spring of 2024 to evaluate the status of the fishery. The purpose of this report is to document preliminary results from the field survey efforts. Survey work is ongoing and the information presented in this report is preliminary and have not been quality checked.

Water quality data collected from Donnell Lake is summarized in the report linked above. Sample results suggest that Donnell Lake exhibits qualities of oligotrophic, mesotrophic, and eutrophic lakes, but is likely in the mesotrophic range.
